Paris La Défense: EPADESA and Generali sign the sale agreement for the Saint-Gobain tower, a project that connects

On Friday, April 22, 2016, EPADESA and Generali Real Estate French Branch signed the sale agreement marking the start of construction on the Saint-Gobain Tower. This project will make a significant contribution to renewing the offering in the Iris neighborhood through new public spaces linking La Défense to Courbevoie, new businesses, a showroom and a fully renovated 1,000-vehicle parking lot.

As part of its commitment to the reclassification of the northern ring road in the city of Courbevoie since 2009, EPADESA is looking to create new links between the La Défense business district and surrounding cities. The Saint-Gobain Tower project, initiated by Generali as investor, is perfectly in line with this approach.

This new tower will house the worldwide head office of Saint-Gobain, leader in the field of sustainable habitat, becoming an international showcase for the company's savoir-faire. Saint-Gobain will also present its latest technical innovations in a showroom open to the public. As a major stakeholder in La Défense, the company's eagerness to maintain and enhance its presence in the area sends a strong signal regarding the appeal of the business district.

EPADESA will finance and create all public spaces associated with this project, generating new uses for the Iris neighborhood and initiating new links between La Défense and Courbevoie. EPADESA wanted the ground floor of the tower to be accessible to the public: in addition to the Saint-Gobain showroom, 300 m² (3,250 ft²) of retail space will be built along the ring road.

The Saint-Gobain Tower will strengthen unity among the entirely developed northern ring road, while complementing the urban and commercial dynamic developed by EPADESA along this thoroughfare. 

Hugues Parant, Chief Executive Officer of EPADESA, stated: “Carrying out a project like this addresses the main challenges Paris La Défense will face in the coming years: modernizing La Défense, opening the area onto surrounding cities and initiating the ‘quality revolution’ necessary to maintain the business district's appeal in a context of international competition. It also brilliantly demonstrates EPADESA's ability to mobilize all players and provide tailored solutions to meet the needs of companies eager to set up shop or develop on the site.”

Designed by the architectural firm Valode et Pistre, this project, 656 ft (165 m) high, with an overall surface area of 49,000 m² (527,500 ft²), will take the form of a triple prism and include several indoor gardens. It will stand out as a reference in terms of quality and user comfort. The project intends to be exemplary in terms of energy performance, meeting the most stringent standards applied by EPADESA to ensure an iconic project:

  •  “Sustainable Building” passport with a minimum level of Excellent for NF BT HQE certification;
  • A minimum level of Excellent for BREEAM certification;
  • A minimum level of Gold for LEED CS certification;

Work will begin in the coming weeks, with completion schedules for 2019.
