La Défense | 30 June 2016
On Wednesday 22 June 2016, Epadesa and a subsidiary of Tamweelview European Holdings ultimately wholly-owned by the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA), signed the sale contract for the Tour Alto. This project is an opportunity to carry out a major renewal of public spaces and create new links between the La Défense business district and Courbevoie.
For the last seven years, the Etablissement Public d’Aménagement de La Défense (La Défense Public Development Agency - EPADESA) has been involved in modernising facilities along the North Circular Boulevard in La Défense, creating new links between the business district and the local neighbourhoods. Tours Carpe Diem, D2 and the forthcoming Saint-Gobain and Alto are already benefiting from improved accessibility to surrounding amenities and services, thanks to these new public spaces.
Tour Alto will be completed by 2020, on the site of the Saisons office block. Designed by IF Architectes, this 150m high tower will be bell-shaped with glass scales on the facade. Its unique design will complement the skyline of La Défense. The project has been endorsed with the highest environmental certification standards: HQE Exceptionnel and BREEAM Excellent.
A retail unit will be built by the developer next to the Tour Alto, on the Circular Boulevard. The Tour car park will have 254 spaces for bicycles, to encourage workers and visitors to use eco-friendly transport. A 2,000 m² forecourt, constructed and financed by Epadesa, will be laid out around the foot of the tower and retail unit, above the lower link road and the Allée Louis Blanc, which will be the future Place d'Alsace. These developments will help to increase access to Courbevoie and improve the comfort and safety of users in this sector.
Within the business district, the Tour Alto project is part of the redevelopment of the Place des Saisons. Currently closed in, surrounded by office buildings and flats, the Western part of the square will be redeveloped, extended as far as the roof of the shopping centre adjoining the tower and connected to the future Place d'Alsace by a flight of steps, to open it up to the surrounding districts.
The construction work on the tower and public spaces will begin in summer 2016 and will be completed by 2020.
According to Hugues Parant, Managing Director of Epadesa: "The Tour Alto project is a crucial part of the plan to redevelop the North Circular Boulevard, led by Epadesa. By 2020, workers, residents and occasional visitors will be able to enjoy high-quality public spaces and new links to neighbouring districts."
